YEAR 12-13 // AGE 16–18

A Level (Advanced Level) is the General Certificate of Education – a school leaving qualification offered by educational institutions in the United Kingdom.  Our Year 12 and 13 students follow a two-year A Level course.  A Level courses offer students the opportunity to specialise in the subjects they enjoy and in which they have done well at I/GCSE level or equivalent.  A Levels remain the most popular route into universities in the United Kingdom. Our University and Careers Adviser works closely with all A Level students to ensure they receive guidance and support for the universities application process through UCAS.

Our students choose three A Level subjects for two years.  In addition, international students require IELTS as this is a university entrance requirement for non-native speakers.  In exceptional circumstances it is possible to study four A Level subjects but this will need prior discussion with the Director of Studies.  During the course of the first year, depending on performance and after careful discussion, it may be appropriate for a student to drop one of the four subjects and carry the remaining three through to A Level.

A Levels are based on three to four units of approximately equal size, depending on the subject.  All A Level courses are now 2-year linear courses, with all examinations taking place at the end of Year 13, graded A*-G (pass) and U (fail).

We offer a wide range of subjects.  The subjects offered are regularly reviewed and new subjects are added from time to time.  It cannot be guaranteed that all subjects listed will run in any particular year as it depends on the number of students who opt for that subject.  Prospective students and parents may specifically request subjects that are not on the list, e.g., French.  We will do our best to accommodate such requests.
