Pastoral Assistant (Part-Time)

We seek to appoint permanent staff as full or part-time Pastoral Assistants who can work flexibly as a team according to the needs of the College.

This role would suit someone living locally, who in addition to daytime duties would be able to do some overnight work (a sleep-in requirement, not awake doing “night shift” work).  The role has some similarities with posts in the care sector and will appeal more broadly than just to those seeking employment in the education sector.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supervise and care for the international boarding students who attend the College.
  • Take an active role in ensuring students’ welfare and happiness, helping them to develop intellectually, socially and emotionally.

Terms and Conditions

  • Hours are flexible and will be discussed with applicants. Pastoral Assistants do not normally supervise students in lessons, so most of the hours occur after school, in the evenings, and at wake-up and breakfast time, and at weekends.
  • Part-time staff will need to be available a minimum of 10 daytime/evening/weekend hours per week.
  • The annual holiday entitlement is 8 weeks, normally to be taken when the College is closed (pro rata for part-time hours).
  • All meals are provided when on duty and particular dietary needs are routinely accommodated.
  • Accommodation & ablution facilities are provided for non-resident staff when on overnight sleep-in duties.
  • Pay rates are competitive (please be clear on the Application Form about your current rate of pay), with salary being commensurate with experience.
  • An up to 5% pension contribution is made by the College alongside an up to employee 5% contribution, where enough hours are worked to meet eligibility criteria.

Pastoral Assistant Job Description

Administrator (Term Time)

We seek a responsible, patient and compassionate individual with a good sense of humour to join our team.  A firm commitment to working in a busy, independent school is essential, as is a willingness to get involved in all aspects of College life and our community

The role is part-time, requiring 5 to 6 hours per day during term time, with some occasional days around the start and end of term.

Ideally the candidate will have a wide range of administration skills within an education setting, a good knowledge of using MIS systems would be preferred.

The successful applicant will enjoy being part of the College community and the wider Inspiring Futures Education Group.

Main duties include:

  • Support and enable effective communication across different departments and the smooth running of the College Office.
  • Assist the Bookkeeper and Registrar with admin duties.
  • Answer the phone and front door to callers and visitors and assist with their queries.
  • Print and bind items as required (e.g., Commendation Certificates).
  • Process documents and analyses using Word and Excel and input data under direction of members of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Collate and distribute the weekly register, contact lists and any staff newsletters.
  • Collate and order stationary, books and other items as requested by departments within the College.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing post and parcel/courier duties.
  • Assist with the organisation of College events.
  • Maintain filing/organise systems to provide immediate retrieval of information.
  • Undertake administrative tasks, including maintenance of computer records.
  • Research and purchase items on behalf of the College/Senior Leadership Team.
  • Distribute all necessary communications to staff and parents.
  • Correspond with parents via email, face-to-face and over the telephone.
